A litttle bit about Mrs. Barnett

After teaching at Marvelwood School for six and a half years, Mrs. Barnett joined Sharon Center School as the art teacher.

Mrs. Barnett understands the profound ways that an arts foundation could impact the life of a child. Through art, students can learn creative and positive ways to express their feelings. Watching students create expressive works of art is one of the true joys of teaching. Her educational philosophy is that each child is unique, and paths of learning differ from one student to another. One of her goals as an art teacher is to help your child access his or her creative voice, and to work with them to help to develop it and maximize it. Learning through experience, trial and error, and hands on practices are most effective in an arts curriculum, and there is no right or wrong way to go about expressing oneself in art. With technical guidance and the development of practical skill sets, students will be able to build upon their artistic and creative expression. Her goal is to help students work hard and have fun in an environment where they feel safe to try new things, and inspired to challenge themselves. Young artists have a natural creativity, and with proper instruction and guidance they can discover things about themselves, as well as the world at large, through art in ways that may not be possible in other subjects. Well-conceived arts programs can enhance students understanding and engagement in other academic subjects as well. She very much looks forward to welcoming you and your child into her classroom!
